What are Functional and Lifestyle Medicine?
Functional medicine and lifestyle medicine are both medical specialties that emphasize a patient centered, whole-person approach to health. The difference between these two specialties is a little more nuanced. Functional medicine utilizes a systematic framework to assess one’s genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors to identify and treat the root causes of dysfunction, whereas lifestyle medicine focuses heavily on evidence-based diet and lifestyle practices to prevent, treat and manage chronic disease. Can you be my Primary Care Physician?
I am a Functional and Lifestyle Medicine consultant for adults, and I work together with your primary care physician to help address the root causes of your conditions. I require that all patients maintain a relationship with their primary care provider while working with me.
Do you accept insurance?
I do not accept insurance as I am not a participating provider in any insurance plan. This means I do not bill insurance, but am happy to provide a detailed “superbill” for the services performed for you to submit to your insurance. The only exception is if you have Medicare or Medicaid. I am opted out of Medicare and Medicaid, and therefore you cannot submit any superbill or reimbursement request to either.
What are the fees involved and how can I pay for services?
Please refer to the Services page for more information on fees. Payments are made through the Patient Portal with all credit cards (including Mastercard) accepted. HSA or FSA cards are accepted as well. I am also happy to provide a detailed “superbill” for the services performed for you to submit to your insurance. As mentioned above, the only exception is that my services cannot be billed to Medicare or Medicaid as I am opted- out of both.
Do you prescribe medications?
Yes, I prescribe medications as necessary to patients in my consultative practice, including bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. However, I do not prescribe any controlled substances.
Do you communicate with my healthcare team?
Yes, I communicate with the members of your healthcare team such as your primary care provider, specialists, health coaches, etc. as needed for continuity of care if you are a member of my practice.
